Regency Painted and Gilt Armchairs to a Design of Thomas Hope
Regency painted and gilt armchairs to a design of Thomas Hope. The scrolled decoration of the top rail is surmounted by stylised Prince of Wales feathers. The front legs and arm supports are carved in the shape of winged lion monopodia. These chairs are clearly inspired by plates in Hope’s 1807 work Household Furniture and Interior Decoration.
