Albert Lynch, ‘Suivez Moi’, ca 1890
Albert Lynch (Lima, Peru 1851-Paris 1912)
Lynch was born in Lima, Peru, of Irish parents. His working life, however, was spent in Paris and Brussels, but, interestingly, this particular work reflects the influence of the English painters of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, especially that of Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones. The model for this work is unknown, but she is pictured in other paintings by Lynch. He died in Paris in 1912.
Provenance:
Probably exhibited by art dealers Boussod, Valadon and Co. in New York in 1893, whence acquired by a prominent Chicago family. It has remained in the family to the present day.
